a wonderland of verse

a wonderland

oh, for the wonder of it all

does not matter big or small

does not matter weak or strong

it is the place where all belong

where all belong and find their way

a place where hearts and creatures stray

and live and laugh, but do not forget

sometimes they’ll fall deeper yet, yet too

find a place placed apart

from resembling its quite innocent start

with returning the question never asked

nor now the mind had found this cast

of madness through a closet door

where a mirror once stood, but stands no more –

and slipping back could never be

for there all must grow up you see –

Double Winged Fairy

When I grow up

I want to be

a double winged fairy

like the dragonfly –

not just a single winged

for they can not

fly as high –

I want to fly

past the Moon

upward to the stars

and twinkle

like those starry gems

that watch us from afar –

I want to touch the heavens

and look lovingly down

upon the beds

of all the blessed children as they

rest their weary heads –

And fill their dreams with splendor

and hope of days to come

but especially with that wonder

of where fairies

really do come from –

Winter Friend

In the shadow of the snow white day

Before the sun takes one last look

I call upon a winter friend

Within the pages of my favorite book

Together we do settle well in

Recalling how we did meet

Just about one year ago, When

the years first snow was at our feet

Talking for an hour or further

I hear my mother take to tapping

Once, twice upon my bedroom door

To check if we had fallen napping

With milk and toast she enters in

“I bring lunch now for my little man,

and yes, a plate for his friend”

Then leaves us quietly once again

And so we dine knowing full well

That the sun soon must take to rest

I cordially ask my friend to spend the evening

And be tonight my winter quest

Mr. Badger how are you

standing in the autumn dew?

Do you have a place to go

when cold north winds begin to blow?

I see you wear your winter coat;

carry a fine new hat and leather tote -

Oh, Mr. Badger do you have a place to rest

with room enough for winter quests?

Stopping by to warm their toes

tracking through the heavy snows?

Oh, the river slows now

the ice sets in -

Go I must, but shall return

when spring blossoms come again -
